Due to a potential bacterial contamination, the FDA is advising consumers and healthcare professionals not to purchase and to cease using EzriCare or Delsam Pharma’s artificial tears right once. Using tainted artificial tears raises the risk of eye infections, which can be fatal or cause blindness. Patients who exhibit symptoms of an eye infection should consult their doctor right away or go to the hospital.
These over-the-counter medicines are sterile and are produced by Global Pharma Healthcare Private Limited.

All unexpired batches of the artificial tears sold under the brand names EzriCare and Delsam Pharma are being voluntarily recalled by Global Pharma at the consumer level.

FDA is working with the CDC, state and local health authorities, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to look into a multistate epidemic involving a rare, highly drug-resistant strain of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. The usage of EzriCare Artificial Tears has been related to illnesses in 55 individuals across 12 states as of January 31, 2023, according to epidemiological and laboratory data. Hospitalization, one death from a bloodstream infection, and lifelong vision loss due to eye infections are all associated adverse events. While waiting for further advice from the CDC and FDA, EzriCare Artificial Tears should not be used, according to a CDC advisory.
