Recommended Adult Dosing

Dosage forms:  TAB (tid): 500 mg, 1000 mg; TAB (bid): 1000 mg; SOL: 100 mg per mL

Iron overload, chronic transfusional

Dose: 25-33 mg/kg/dose PO tid; Start: 25 mg/kg/dose PO tid; Max: 99 mg/kg/day; Alt: start 15 mg/kg/dose PO tid, incr. by 5 mg/kg/dose qwk; Info: for pts w/ thalassemia syndromes, sickle cell dz, or other transfusion-dependent anemias; round dose to nearest 2.5 mL; adjust dose q2-3mo based on serum ferritin levels; may interrupt tx if serum ferritin levels consistently <500 mcg/L; interrupt tx if ANC <1500
